One of the largest nations in the world, the United States of America is a huge country that sprawls from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean and which shares its borders with Mexico in the south and Canada in the north. Some of the world's most famous cities are located in the United States, including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and New Orleans. Hugely popular tourist destinations such as Walt Disney World (in Florida), Hollywood (in California), the White House and Capitol Hill (in Washington), Yellowstone National Park (in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho), the Grand Canyon (in Arizona and Nevada) and Las Vegas (in Nevada) are also within United States borders. Visitors to the States usually visit one key city or region, sticking to either the East or the West Coasts. Although it is possible to drive from one side of the country to the other, it would take weeks. Flying from coast to coast is much easier, but even this takes several hours.
The United States has some of the world's busiest airports, and it is these that are the most common port of entry into the country. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International is by far the busiest, though LAX (Los Angeles International), Chicago O'Hare International, Dallas-Fort Worth International, Denver International, Las Vegas McCarran International and New York J.F.K. International are all very popular. Rail and road connections from Canada and Mexico are also common, as is cruise-liner entry into Florida, New York, Hawaii, Los Angeles and Alaska. Car hire for exploring the States is a must - just about everyone uses private transportation. All of the major international brands are represented, including Thrifty, National-Alamo, Budget, Avis, Hertz, Dollar and Enterprise.
